Ski sport in the Balkans

Kosovo and Albania skiing and ski touring, are a special experience. Both countries and partly some parts of North Macedonia offer uniques ski and snow tours, with a clean environment without lifts and crowds. Ski touring and snowshoeing are a growing service provided to tourists in this region.

Balkan Natural Adventure offers Ski Touring (itinerary) and Snowshoeing (offer) trips. Below you can find some general information about the region.

There are two mountains ranges that are suitable for winter sport:

Ski sport in Sharr Mountains

The Sharr Mountains have round slopes very nice for ski touring. They are home to longer trails that go through Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia. Some parts are very remote and without development, some are home to ski centers. There are no Albania ski resorts that offer lifts and infrastructure. In Sharr, there is one Kosovo ski resort called Brezovica with about five lifts and one called Dragash with one lift. North Macedonia offers more in terms of ski resorts with two medium-sized centers: Mavrovo and Popova Sapka. Thus our company works more in ski touring in Kosovo and Albania, while we do not work with classic ski holidays in ski resorts.

Our company offers ski touring in Sharr mountains covering all three countries. Ski touring in Albania and Kosovo includes some of the most remote parts of these countries and Korab peak 2764 m. This peak is the highest in Albania and North Macedonia as it is situated at the border. While you can find an itinerary here, we can design your trip based on your preference. Ski Sport in the Accursed Mountains

The Accursed mountains which are more remote are home to steeper slopes. They are very good for off-piste skiing, and almost free of any lifts. The only lift in this region is one in Boge in Kosovo which is 1000 meters long. Other than off-piste and ski touring, Accursed Mountains are suitable for snowshoeing. Other ski centers in the region

Montenegro has two ski centers one is in Kolashin which is more developed and the other one is in Durmitor. Both centres have some modern ski lifts and some still old style built in the eighties or even earlier. Balkan Natural Adventure does not offer tours in this part of the Balkans. The other center is Kopaonik in Serbia which is accessible from Kosovo, however, you must have the right stamps on your passport, contact us for advice.
