As summer draws to a close in the Peaks of the Balkans, the region’s beauty is far from over. Even as we approach the end of September, new bookings are coming in for those eager to experience the stunning winter landscape. Typically, nature in this pristine area is left undisturbed after October, allowing wildlife to thrive and nurture their young, who will emerge in spring. The bears, often a source of fear for many, will retreat to their caves, hibernating through the colder months.

While true spring in the mountains arrives in May, our unique version of spring happens in February and March. It’s a special time marked by snow-covered vistas, long sunny days, and exceptional opportunities for ski touring.
The majestic mountains of this region are particularly well-suited for ski touring, boasting a higher tree line than the Alps and a lack of intrusive winter infrastructure that can disrupt the natural landscape. Our company has collaborated closely with local guest houses to facilitate winter tours in the Peaks of the Balkans, making this breathtaking experience more accessible.
This year, we’re excited to welcome guests from Austria, the UK, and Switzerland, who will embark on what we are calling the first official winter tourist season in the Peaks of the Balkans. While there have been previous tours and visits—some as part of familiarization trips last year and others led by adventurous guides—this season promises to offer a more organized and enriching experience.
We invite you to enjoy some photos from last year’s tours, capturing the essence of our winter wonderland.
